Europe 2018 on the R NineT – Day 4: Rainy days in Gummersbach

1st of June, 2018. Rainy days mean screen time for fair-weather Dave as goes in search of pannier options.

Rainy days here in Gummersbach, Germany, where I am staying at the moment. Still getting a lot of things sorted. Finally sorted out an approximate route that I’ll take around Europe, so I won’t be improvising absolutely everything on the way like I did when I did the inland Australian tour on my Africa Twin last year. Not keen on repeating that in a foreign continent on the other side of the world.

Day 4 – Rainy days spent inside, researching on items to be bought for the long road.

On the other hand, the weather is not looking so great up in the Alps region for the majority of the following week, but I’ll figure something out so that me and my mate won’t have to camp out in the wet.. which reminds me that I need to get my wet weather gear sorted.

On an even more urgent matter, I still haven’t sorted out my luggage bags for the BMW. The only option available at this time within reasonable driving distance is a leather pannier bag and frame combo made by Wunderlich but, at an eye-watering €800 (approx. AUD$1200), it’s a big hit to take on the wallet that literally is only big enough to fit a few bottles and a wallet.

Hoping that everything is ready by tomorrow afternoon, because my throttle hand is itching for a ride! Just for this evening, though, I will live my life vicariously through McGregor and Boorman’s Long Way Round to keep myself occupied.
